Done 10k on my 1290 SAS (2019) after putting 25k on an 1190 and 10k on a 1090 - no issues in 45k on 1X90's. With Honda now adding all the high tech to the AT the chances are it will be just as big a risk as a KTm / Ducati / BMW now anyway, its so often the complex electronics that cause issues these days, the mechanics are pretty good,
I've been pretty blown away by the new Triumph Tiger 1200 - it's feisty, sporty and lots of other words ending in y. But how does it compare to my favourite
Comfort mode on the highway makes it a magic carpet, and Street mode is great for 90% of canyon carving. Once you're going at the 7/10 to 8/10 pace, the linkage-less PDS rear suspension is apparent. Luckily Sport mode makes it disappear for the most part. It really feels like a different bike in this mode.
The biggest compromise for the road is the availability of on-road tyres for the 21" front on the R. The TA2s are as close to a road tyre as you can fit. The 1190 with its 19" front has a wider selection of road tyres. The 19" is not quite as good as the 21" on the R off-road but it will do it fine.
26,000 miles on my 1290 SA-T so far but I’ve heard of a 1290 with around 90,000 and handful of 1190s with more than that. If you asked the same Q on a BMW forum there would be loads of people with 100,000+ but there seem to be far more ultra-low mileage KTMs than ultra-high mileage. BMW been around a long long time.
I’ve had an 1190 before, loved that bike, but tempted by the 1290 instead. My main concern is how much wider the 1290 looked at the dealership vs how wide I remember my 1190 being. Width being the concern as I’m tall enough for either but will be weaving through a lot of London traffic with ever decreasing gaps, don’t want to be stuck
ALBUQUERQUE, NM. A number of my friends have recently purchased KTM 1090 Adventures. I have a 2008 KTM 950 Super Enduro R and am wondering which is the best bike between the two for riding dirt roads. The 950 is about 50 lbs lighter and is easier to mount and dismount than the 1090. I love my SE and would hate to sell it and find out later that
Abs, traction control and power is fine. I don't ride much off road, and when I do it's hard packed dirt roads. The GS and KTM are just too much bike for me,and at a significantly higher price. And, that's not including maintenance costs. Hats off to anyone buying the Gs or Ktm and loving them- more power to you.
